The cruise industry is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry. According to 2009 Travel and Tourism market report, the Caribbean represents the top cruise destination. Europe, the Mediterranean, Alaska, Mexico, Trans-Canal, Hawaii, and South America are the fastest growing destination for the U.S. Cruisers.
The cruise industry’s growth is reflected in its expanding passenger capacity. Several major cruise lines including Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas and her sister ship, Allure of the Seas (Both 5,400 Berths), Norwegian Epic (4,200 Berths) and Carnival Dream (3,652 Berths) are scheduled to launch over the next few years... The Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas will be the world's biggest and most innovative cruise ship in the world When she launches in December 2009. An architectural marvel at sea, she will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross registered tons (GRT), carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms. Oasis of the Seas will be the first ship to tout the cruise line’s new neighborhood concept of seven distinct themed areas, which includes Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone.
